Recent App: Incident Logger

Incident-Logger-roundedOur most recent app that we have develop has just gone live in the iOS App Store. Incident Logged is an application design to make it easy for emergency personnel or the likes to capture incident times and outcomes.

Incident Logger has been built using our most favourite application framework Apache Cordova\Adobe PhoneGap. Using this framework will allows us to very shortly release an android version as well.

This is only version 1.0.0 with plenty of updates and new features planned to come.

If you think there is something you would like added to the app let us know.

Our Haven Wildlife Shelter Inc.

Our Haven Wildlife Shelter Inc

Recently we had the privilege of being giving the opportunity to create a website for Our Haven Wildlife Shelter Inc. Not only do we want to show of our work but also share with everyone what fantastic work the guys at Our Haven Wildlife Shelter do.

We were pretty much given free reign when it came to the design of the website with the only request being to use an image of 2 joeys as the logo. From there we decided to use some natural colours to represent the nature that the wildlife live in.

This is what we came up with for the home page design, clean and inviting. The home page also features links to some of the latest news that has been posted by Our Haven Wildlife Shelter Inc. which automatically updates whenever there is a new post on their blog.

Our Haven Wildlife Shelter Home PageFrom here we simply just added the extra pages required and styled them appropriately. Donating to Our Haven Wildlife Shelter Inc. is handled by PayPal as it was the easiest and most secure way.

Anyway enough about us, let me tell you a little more about Our Haven Wildlife Shelter:

Our Haven Wildlife Shelter Inc. do the very best to raise local awareness and participate in Bunnings bbqs, give talks at local clubs and schools. We have tried putting donation tins around but very little comes from these. In Gippsland there is abundant wildlife and it is taken for granted.
The Community of Golden Beach have supported Our Haven Wildlife Shelter Inc. really well. Some of the community collect grass, some help feed the joeys, some help with sewing pouches and washing to provide sized clean pouches for the joeys.
Their dream would be to have land out of town away from main roads so we could release their orphans safely, At the moment they have to sedate them when they are 18 months of age transport them which is a three hour drive to a large shelter where they are soft released, which is very stressful on the orphans and ourselves.

To read more about Our Haven Wildlife Shelter Inc. head over to their website and Facebook page.

If you have a web development project that you would like assistance with or just some minor web work required, don’t hesitate and come talk to us. We will be able to help you get things underway.

Woods Cafe: Migration to WordPress

Woods LogoRecently the Melbourne Parkview Hotel’s restaurant, Woods (formerly Lime), went through a name change and as you can imagine there is a lot to do in order for this to happen. To our good fortune the Melbourne Parkview choose us, Paperclip IT, to update restaurants website to incorporate the new name.

Our proposal to the Parkview included migrating the website from the existing CMS to WordPress. The main reason to do this was to make it easier for the hotels employee’s to update the restaurants menu’s that it displays on the website.

Previously, in order to update the menus staff needed to understand html or fiddle around with copying and pasting existing text on the site. What we did when migrating the site to WordPress, was create a specific WordPress plugin that enables staff to completely manage the menu without having any HTML knowledge.

Melbourne Parkview staff now have full control and flexibility over the menu, easily changing the order of menu items, creating/removing menu items, upload/remove pdf versions, they can now also simply indicate which items on the menu are gluten free or vegetarian.

Woods Menu

An aspect of the website migration that the Melbourne Parkview requested was to keep the existing overall website design with as little change as possible. For some, migrating a website to a new CMS and keeping the design the same as before can be a difficult task, but with our knowledge and the flexibility of WordPress we were able to keep the design the way it was and in some areas actually improve previous design flaws.

Now that you have read about migrating the Woods Cafe website, go check it out and let us know what you think!

Using PhoneGap 3.0

PhoneGapSo today I have started experimenting with PhoneGap 3.0!

Initially I was a little hesitant in using the command line to get it up and running and also the new way to add platforms to the project, however after a few minutes I was pleasantly surprised!

Everything about the PhoneGap 3.0 just seems to make sense, from using Node.js to install it and upgrading, to have a single folder structure to house different platform versions.

Currently I have folders all over the place for the same projects one for iOS, one for Android ect. Now it just all sits under the one project folder.

One thing that I have found will need a little getting used to is editing HTML files. Traditionally I would edit them in XCode inside the project but now I need to remember to copy these changes to the parent html file otherwise they changes will be overwritten when I rebuild the project.

All in all though I did managed quite easily to get one of my existing enterprise apps up and running on iOS andAandroid, as well as a new enterprise app on iOS.

I am looking forward to seeing more improvements with PhoneGap and the upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1
